The Aurvana Ace 3 contain both a MEMS driver and a traditional dynamic driver

Some technologies can be a little resistant to change. Take devices such as headphones and speakers - they've been using essentially the same tech for almost 100 years. Just recently, though, new technology in this area has come along that could give the audio industry a bit of a shake-up.

The technology is called MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems, see #MF403) and, rather than designing traditional headphones with 'dynamic drivers' that contain copper wires, magnets and other components, the entire driver is made out of silicon, just like modern computer chips. The MEMS technology has been around for a few years, but the first company to bring it into the mainstream consumer market is Creative Technology with its Aurvana Ace and Ace 2 earbuds.
