The iPhone in 2025: what we know so far

With the iPhone 16 range just around the corner, there’s not long until we see what Apple has been working on for the last year.

But what significant improvements and updates can we expect from the upcoming devices? We’ve scoured the rumour mill to find out.

There are some features that are anticipated to come to every iPhone 17 variant. Across the range, we anticipate 120Hz ProMotion screen tech and always-on displays, as well as 24MP front-facing cameras. The entry-level iPhone 17, meanwhile, might even get a larger 6.3-inch screen. On the inside, there will be an A19 chip, 8GB of memory and Wi-Fi 6E.

This year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger displays (6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively), and that will almost certainly continue to the iPhone 17 Pro models. The Pro devices could also potentially get under-display Face ID, as well as a souped-up A19 Pro chip and 12GB of memory along with Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

There’s also talk of a 48MP telephoto camera lens for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. At least one iPhone in the range could get a mechanical aperture that would improve Portrait mode shots. The iPhone 17 Pro is also expected to have a tetraprism lens, meaning the feature will no longer be limited to the Pro Max device. Great news for the photographers out there.
