<p><strong>AFTER WHAT SEEMED</strong> like a quiet summer, we&rsquo;re now experiencing a flood of new silicon, including Intel&rsquo;s 13th-generation processors. The hybrid design mixes performance cores and efficiency cores. We&rsquo;ve PCIe 5.0, DDR5, at least five clever boost methods and more. There&rsquo;s no node shrink, instead, it uses the same Intel 7 process. For that innovation, we&rsquo;ll have to wait for Meteor Lake. Intel claims the world&rsquo;s fastest desktop processor title and best gaming experience. There will be 22 versions in all, the initial ones being the Core i9-13900, i7-13700, and i5-13600, available in K, and KF versions (the latter without integrated graphics).</p>

<p id="2">The top-dog i9-13900K ($589) has eight performance and 16 efficiency cores with a maximum clock of &lsquo;up to 5.8GHz&rsquo;, while the i5-13600KF (6p+8e) is $294. Raptor Lake chips run more efficiency cores than Alder Lake (there are eight more on the die), which gives a decent bump to multi-threaded performance. They also get hefty frequency increases and larger L2 caches. This equates to an i9-13900 being 15 percent higher at single-thread performance and up to 41 percent higher in multi-thread performance measured against the previous generation&rsquo;s i9-12900, according to the company.</p>
<p id="3">Intel has talked about Raptor Lake chips reaching a peak of 6GHz, and no doubt has something in reserve to match AMD&rsquo;s promised V-Cache version of the Zen 4. Expect AMD and Intel to compete to claim the accolade of the world&rsquo;s best gaming processor, seen as proof of who makes the best chips. Expect our review of the Intel Core i9-13900 in the next issue.&nbsp;</p>
