FLY ME TO THE MOON'S COSTARS TALK ABOUT PARENTING AND MIXING LOVE AND WORK
ERIC ANDERSSON
KIDS, CHEMISTRY AND A NEW ROM-COM

Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum play love interests in the new romantic comedy Fly Me to the Moon, but sitting down to chat with People, the pair give off major sibling vibes as they gently tease each other.

When they began filming the 1960s-set movie—about a NASA flight director (Tatum) overseeing the moon landing and a PR exec (Johansson) tasked with filming a fake version of the feat in case the real thing goes awry—Tatum says he turned into “the boy on the playground.

I immediately went into ‘just make fun of her’ mode. I have a big sister, so I’m pretty good at annoying girls.” Adds Johansson wryly: “I can attest to that, definitely.”

The actors both appeared in the 2013 dramedy Don Jon and the 2016 comedy Hail, Caesar! but never shared any scenes until now. The collaboration was worth the wait for Johansson, 39 (who’s mom to daughter Rose, 9, with her ex, French journalist Romain Dauriac, and son Cosmo, 2, with her husband, Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost), and Tatum, 44 (who’s engaged to actress Zoë Kravitz and dad to daughter Everly, 11, with ex Jenna Dewan). They talk about their “easy” connection, their growing kids and what it’s like to work with their real-life loves.

When did you first meet?

CHANNING TATUM On Hail, Caesar!, I came over for a second.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON Was I too waterlogged to remember? [Johansson played a synchronized swimmer and actress in the 1950s-set Coen Brothers film.] .

TATUM You probably had literal water in your ears. You were like, “Just get me out of this thing.” I think I said to you when I met you, “I think you might be the last person to ever do a synchronized swimming sort of scene in any movie forever.”

JOHANSSON That’s probably true.

TATUM Unless they do an Esther Williams movie.
