Vicky McClure: My Grandad’s War
Monday, 9pm, ITV1
Line of Duty star Vicky McClure grew up knowing nothing about what her grandfather Ralph did in World War Two, since, like many veterans, he never spoke about what had happened to him during the conflict.
‘He’s just always been my grandad,’ says the 40-year-old actor. ‘I’ve seen pictures around the house where he’s got his uniform on, but thought nothing of it as a kid.’
Now, Ralph, 97, has joined his granddaughter on an emotional journey back to the Normandy beaches where the tide of the war turned in the Allies’ favour, to share his memories of D-Day in an ITV1 documentary.
