NEW DRAMA
Malpractice Sunday, 9pm, ITV1 (box set, ITVX)
A doctor finds her career in extreme jeopardy when a patient dies in her care in ITV1’s timely medical thriller Malpractice.
The five-part series is set in a bustling A&E department, where wrung-out Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) is leading the team through a busy shift. Lucinda leaves a suspected overdose patient in the care of a junior doctor, Ramya Morgan (Priyanka Patel), and deals with a more pressing emergency. But, when the patient dies, Lucinda’s decisions are called into question.
‘Lucinda is hitting burnout and doing her best but she’s not in a good place,’ says Algar, as TV&Satellite Week visits the set in Shipley, West Yorkshire, where a former tax office has been turned into a hospital. ‘She was asked to choose which patient was more important. But there’s the trauma of thinking, “Did you do enough?”’
