Election Night
Thu, from 9pm, BBC1, ITV1, C4, Sky Showcase & Sky News
Get ready for election-night fever on Thursday, as the polls close and the television coverage begins with a jam-packed night of politics, in-depth results analysis and no doubt a couple of shock seat losses.
But will Rishi Sunak or Sir Keir Starmer be elected as the UK’s Prime Minister? Here’s the rundown of the night’s TV reporting…
ELECTION 2024 BBC1
Laura Kuenssberg and Clive Myrie are leading the BBC’s coverage, alongside Jeremy Vine and the famous swingometer. They’ll be joined in the studio by the BBC’s political editor Chris Mason and Sir John Curtice. Across the country, Fiona Bruce, Victoria Derbyshire and Naga Munchetty report from key locations.
Here, Kuenssberg, 47, and Myrie, 59, give TV&Satellite Week their take on the night…
This is your first time as election-night anchors. Are you both ready?
Myrie Both Laura and I have put in the preparations for any eventuality. I’m also going to keep going with snacks, chocolate and orange liquorice torpedoes! Kuenssberg I think we’ll also have to get in loads of pick ’n’ mix, Clive! But the strange thing about live TV is that it always goes incredibly quickly.
What can we expect?
Kuenssberg It’s coming from the studio that’s my home studio on the weekend and Clive’s studio for News at Ten. But we’ll also be bringing amazing live stories from around the country.
At 10pm we get the official exit poll. What can you reveal?
Kuenssberg There are a handful of journalists who get briefed on the exit poll around 20 minutes before the country. It’s one of the most- exciting moments as a journalist.
