NEW THRILLER
North Sea Connection
Saturday, 9pm & 9.45pm, BBC4 (box set, BBC iPlayer)
The stunning scenery of Connemara on Ireland's west coast conceals a dark gangland secret in BBC4's brooding new drama series North Sea Connection.
The six-part Irish show comes from Bulletproof writer Mark Greig and stars Rebellion's Lydia McGuinness as Ciara Kenny, the skipper of a small fishing boat who occasionally brings ashore bags of smuggled cigarettes for her brother Aidan to sell on.
But Ciara's small-town life changes for ever when she heads out to sea with her loyal deckhand Shane (Dónall Ó Héalai) and a suspicious new crewman for a routine pick-up of some counterfeit fags hidden among the lobster pots.
