MEL GIEDROYC & MARTIN CLUNES EXPLORE BRITAIN BY THE BOOK
NEW WED, 9PM, ITV1 TRAVELOGUE
Mel Giedroyc’s always been an avid reader. So the star jumped at the chance to team up with her old pal, actor Martin Clunes, to visit the locations that inspired some of our best-loved writers for a new ITV1 travelogue.
‘I’m obsessed with reading!’ she beams, as TV Times joins the pair for an exclusive video chat about Mel Giedroyc & Martin Clunes
Explore Britain by the Book. ‘And it’s very hard to turn down anything that involves Martin – but I don’t want his head to get too big!’
The one-off sees them journey through Dorset, where Martin has lived for over 20 years and which has influenced some of literature’s greatest works, including John Fowles’ 1969 historical epic The French Lieutenant’s Woman.
Along the way, they pay homage to Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five on a train ride and take a boat trip off Lulworth Cove, which featured in Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd.
Here, Mel, 55, and Martin, 61, tell us what to expect…
You’re longtime pals. Has it been lovely working together on this?
MEL Yes, we had hours of chat! We met on C4’s Never Mind the Horrocks [in 1996], a sketch show in honour of Jane Horrocks, who’s a legend. It was such a laugh but a long time ago!
