SCOOP NEW FROM FRIDAY 5 APRIL, NETFLIX DRAMA
When Prince Andrew agreed to allow the Newsnight team into Buckingham Palace in November 2019, he believed his no-holds-barred interview with journalist Emily Maitlis would turn the tide of public opinion back in his favour.
However, the one-hour programme, which focused on the Duke of York's controversial friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, instead resulted in a wave of ridicule that left his reputation in tatters.
With many wondering how Queen Elizabeth II's third child found himself in the Newsnight hot seat, much-anticipated new Netflix film SCOOP attempts to answer that by exploring the extraordinary behind-the-headlines story of how the infamous interview was secured.
"The idea of doing a film about the interview might seem strange, because everyone's seen the interview,' says award-winning actor Rufus Sewell, 56, who portrays Prince Andrew. 'But it's really the story of how the women at Newsnight put him in front of the camera. It's not Andrew's story; it's that story.
