THE GOOD SHIP MURDER
FRIDAY, 9PM, CHANNEL 5 DRAMA
A luxury cruise offers everything the discerning holidaymaker could possibly desire. There’s the scrumptious all-you-caneat buffet, the sparkling entertainment package, the stunning sea views and, erm, the series of murder mysteries being solved by the vessel’s First Officer and its new cabaret singer!
This is the fun scenario as Channel 5 invites us aboard its latest crime drama, The Good Ship Murder, which reunites former Coronation Street stars Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward in an adventure around the Mediterranean.
The eight-parter sees The X Factor 2005 champion Shayne play ex-detective Jack Grayling, who has left the police to pursue his dream of becoming a singer on a cruise ship, where he meets Catherine’s newly promoted First Officer Kate Woods.
After a passenger is found murdered in their first port of call, affable Jack and ambitious Kate form an unlikely partnership in a bid to crack the case, and what follows is a wave of mysteries, each set against a different coastal backdrop where the ship has dropped anchor.
As TV Times catches up with Catherine, 40, and Shayne, 38, to find out more, the wonderfully chatty pair reveal why they are thrilled – but not surprised – to be working together again…
Having played on-off Weatherfield couple Eva Price and Aidan Connor, how did you feel about teaming up again for this show?
CATHERINE My agent said, ‘Shayne Ward is the male lead – do you two get on?’ I was like, ‘Get on?! We’re the naughty school kids who shouldn’t be paired together!’
