CHANGING ENDS
NEW FROM THURSDAY 1 JUNE, ITVX COMEDY
Alan Carr's hilariously camp humour has made him a mainstream TV star adored by millions in top shows such as Chatty Man and Epic Gameshow. Life in the showbizzy fast lane for Alan, however, is a far cry from his awkward childhood in 1980s Northampton as the son of a league football manager.
Now his younger years are laid bare in this six-part comedy drama, which sees Alan narrate his life played out by newcomer Oliver Savell, who beat 450 hopefuls to the role. It explores young Alan's daily battle with bullies, while navigating the highs and lows of Fourth Division football as his dad Graham Carr, played by It's a Sin star Shaun Dooley, manages lowly Northampton Town 'It's such an interesting story of a camp boy growing up with a football-manager dad,' says Alan, 46. 'Every episode is rooted in truth with a bit of poetic licence - it's a sitcom, not The Crown! It's a half-hour show bathed in 1980s nostalgia that'll make you laugh and tug on your heartstrings.
And there were chuckles all round when Alan and Ollie got together to tell TV Times much more about the sitcom, soccer, shell suits and stardom...
