A retired professional goalkeeper with a treasured football programme signed by legendary Brazilian forward Pelé hopes Jay Blades' team can restore his cherished souvenir as BBC1's The Repair Shop returns with a new run of prime-time episodes.
When Peter Grotier arrives in the barn, he tells Jay that in September 1970, aged 19, he was part of the West Ham side that travelled to New York to play an exhibition match against Brazilian football club Santos. On the Santos team was Pelé, who had won the World Cup that summer, and after the game Peter asked the footballing great to sign his match programme.
Over the years, the programme has followed Peter, now 72, on many house moves and it has become so damaged that he fears he may not be able to hand it down to his grandson.
TV Times caught up with Greek paper conservator Angelina Bakalarou - who is tasked with restoring the fragile programme without damaging Pelé's precious signature - to find out more...
