Shortly after 7pm on 21 December 1988, the lives of residents in Lockerbie were changed for ever when Pan Am Flight 103, en route from London to New York, exploded over the Scottish border town.

It remains the deadliest terrorist attack in UK history, claiming the lives of the 243 passengers and 16 crew on board, as well as 11 people on the ground. Among the passengers was 23-year- old medical student Flora Swire, who was travelling to the United States to spend Christmas with her American boyfriend.

Sky Atlantic’s Lockerbie: A Search for Truth is a new drama based on the relentless mission by Flora’s devastated father, Dr Jim Swire, to uncover the truth about the bombing and get justice for the victims and their families.

‘I thought it was the most- remarkable story, a painful one, but also an impressive one,’ says Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth, 64, who portrays Jim.

‘His motivation was to find out the truth and also to gain understanding. He wanted to make sense of something that is inherently unfathomable.’
