Jodie Whittaker vanquished countless terrifying aliens as the 13th Doctor in BBC1's sci-fi adventure Doctor Who. But can the acclaimed actor win over the equally formidable Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith as she swaps a sonic screwdriver for a spatula to take part in C4's The Great Celebrity Bake Off in aid of Stand Up to Cancer?
The seventh series, hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, sees a fresh batch of 20 famous faces enter the white tent of baking dreams on a quest to impress the judges and raise vital dough for the charity.
In the opening episode, Jodie competes against singer Paloma Faith, comedian Munya Chawawa and reality star Spencer Matthews, as they make cake-pops for the Signature, tackle a twisty Technical and create biscuit portraits of Paul and Prue for the Showstopper. But who will win the prized Star Baker apron? Here, Jodie, 41, spills the beans...
What inspired you to sign up, Jodie?
I'd never put myself in a celebrity version of something unless it was for charity, and this is all for the greater good. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't been affected by cancer to some degree.
