Set in the 1890s, the six-part series begins as docker Sam Hardacre (Liam McMahon) and his fish-gutter wife Mary (Claire Cooper) are working for a Yorkshire fish merchant, alongside their son Joe (Adam Little), daughter Liza (Shannon Lavelle) and Mary's shrewd ex-smuggler mother, Ma (Julie Graham).
