AS NIGHTLIFE SURGES BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC GLORY, A NEW BREED OF UNDERGROUND PARTIES HAS ALSO SPRUNG UP TO PROVIDE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR MUSIC-LOVERS

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The year 2022 marked the revival of nightlife as clubs in Singapore reopened after more than two years of indefinite restrictions. Big-name clubs that either had to pivot to F&B or shut down its operations are back in the full swing of things. Yet as eager clubbers throng the hottest spots in town for a long-awaited night out, the surging long lines and crazy expensive entrance fees are also proving to be something of a deterrent, driving party-goers to seek an alternative.

Enter: underground parties. A string of one-time events hosted in eclectic locations, these underground raves are organised by independent party hosts looking for a new way to have a good time. And, whether intentional or not, they're also doing the good deed of spotlighting new local DJ talents and less-explored places in Singapore.

Underground nightlife may have slowly emerged into the mainstream post-pandemic, but they're not new to those who are in the know. Folks like Eat Me Pop Tart, North East Social Club, The Council SG are considered to have pioneered alternative parties in Singapore. Eat Me Pop Tart has been around since 2004, making them a veteran when it comes to guaranteeing a good time. With a focus on community, Eat Me Pop Tart's motto is to "Never Lose That Feeling" - and these concepts are pivotal to every party they put out there. Now, 18 years on and a pandemic later, they are coming back to life with a slew of parties, events, festivals and an appearance as guest party host at this year's F1 Singapore.
