THE YEAR IN BEAUTY

Beauty in 2022 was a lot of things: A nod to the 90s, graphic liner patterns, Gen Z television drama inspo, and B overall busy looks. All in all, it's safe to say that the beauty industry exploded, leaving behind glam and polarising opinions in its wake.

Some big 'wow' moments on the runway and in editorials made our jaws drop, but simple social media posts were not lagging too far behind. From home remedies that sang true to home to Tiktok and Instagram Reel-inspired trends (with little to no backing from experts), some of us returned to our roots, and some now swear by the K-Beauty bible.

Through all the highs and lows of inspired make-up looks and self-care routines, there are a few trends that made a mark and were either chucked into the bin immediately or will continue to be with us for years to come; and may even reserve a spot in the classics.

TREND ALERT

Apart from the products, the beauty trends that took off in 2022 were no small feat. From giving foundation and heavy application to the boot to nails that took us right back to when we were teens, we've seen it all this year. Here are three trends that stood out:

Siren lips

Foxy, trendy, and with a hint of classic - this lip trend blew up this year. A brown liner blended in, and some clear gloss or a lighter shade of your lippy on the inside make this trend stand out. Perfect for a classy soirée or a night out with the gang, this is a must-try.

Ombre blush
