Every two years, Rolex will select five exceptional individuals to receive the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, a prize given to innovators whose ambitious projects help to better our current lives while also protecting the planet for generations to come.
The awards is part of Rolex's ongoing Perpetual Planet Initiative, a programme that champions individuals and organisations that utilise science and technology to understand the earth's environmental challenges, then address them head-on with solutions that will restore balance to our ecosystems. The main goal? To achieve what Rolex calls a Perpetual Planet.
To think that when the Rolex Awards for Enterprise first started in 1976-in honour of the 50th anniversary of the world's first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster-it was meant to be just a one-off celebration. But overwhelming global support would move Rolex to instead transform the recognition into a biennial programme. Now, 48 years in, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has supported 160 Laureates, whose projects have had a profound impact across 65 countries.
