Why did you choose the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang as the base of collaboration this time?
The Spirit of Big Bang has become one of our pillars; we have the Big Bang, the Classic Fusion, and the Spirit of Big Bang. After discussion, Maxime thought he could express himself and his graphic art in the Spirit of Big Bang. The idea is always to have something very different from the previous edition because it's a bit weird if our fanbase - who owns the first and second editions - realise there's no difference in the third. We thought the Spirit of Big Bang inspired by Maxime's design, was the right choice to achieve a big difference.
Were there particular challenges to translating Maxime's designs into the Spirit of Big Bang versus the previous Big Bangs?
We always have challenges. First of all, Maxime has to design what he thinks could be the expression of his art in the Spirit of Big Bang. From there, we adapt what is possible which from the case construction point of view, is to have different finishing (polished and brushed) these facets and a three-dimensional effect on the crystal. We had many technical challenges the hands were a challenge and crafting the watch in ceramic was another. Creating ceramic moulds for every component is always a big challenge.
Isn't it a hard equilibrium then to translate the designs and the concept into functional watch features that are innovative and still beautiful?
