The pursuit to leave our mark on the world is an understandable one. No doubt, each of us can resonate with the desire to envision something that will last longer than ourselves. It is arguably the one thing we all can relate to. Whether that manifests through careers, personal pursuits, family or the people we meet, there is an innate desire to earmark one’s existence in some way, shape or form. It is a symptom of humanity to find meaning in the meaningless, to believe that being remembered is — in some abstract way — a form of immortality.
Fashion is not exempt from this mortal desire. In fact, it is one of the largest proponents. In the larger scheme of things, what is fashion to a designer than to create clothing that will outlive trends, the fashion cycle, and even themselves and the houses they hail from? Since its wool mill origins under founder Ermenegildo Zegna in 1910, ZEGNA has attempted to distinguish itself as one of fashion’s finest producers of luxury textiles and fabrics. Now, under the orchestration of artistic director Alessandro Sartori, ZEGNA has set out on a newer path of worldbuilding that hones in on exploring new forms, natural fabrics, and colours.
