New year celebrationRosemary is an excellent choice for a container all year round, and here I've combined it with small, colourful treasures - winter-flowering bulbs in rich, bright hues to welcome in the new year. After the crocuses and reticulata irises fade, you can replant the bulbs straight into the garden and the rosemary will continue happily in the pot. A terracotta pot hints at the sun-baked, summer climes that these plants all favour and its porosity means that they don't sit wet in winter. Its scalloped edge and warm colour draw attention to the detail of flowers, and contrast prettily with the silvery-green rosemary. Position the pot where it will be in sun for at least part of the day, ideally on a tabletop where you can see and enjoy it close up.
