Our gardens are constantly evolving. Whether you’re replacing spent annuals or contemplating the next big project, gardeners are rarely satisfied to keep things as they are. Autumn is the perfect time to consider bigger permanent features as activity begins to slow down.
The calming nature of water features is scientifically proven and easy to harness in your backyard. You can start small with a minor feature or tackle a massive fixture that becomes the focal point for guests as well as wildlife. Luckily, there are many water feature options to consider, each adding a different special something to your garden.
Use rills to direct the eye
A classic water feature option, rills can separate a garden into zones and draw the eye toward a particular focal point. Placed correctly, this type of feature is one way to extend the space of smaller gardens by elongating the area and drawing the eye to views beyond. Add the sound of calming running water by creating different levels that flow into one another.
Use fountains for luxurious calm
The concept of ‘luxury on a budget’ is big in design this year both indoors and out. And nothing says luxury like a running fountain overflowing with water. DIY fountain options don’t need to be pricey either, requiring a simple pump system to keep the water running. For features placed far out, look for solar water feature pumps that don’t require complicated wiring.
