He’s known as ‘the man with the healing hands’. A performance coach, osteopath and massage therapist, if you’re in pain or looking to find a route to full-body health, James Davies is the real deal. Team GB’s team therapist for the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio, Davies has worked with the best Premier League footballers, elite England rugby players and stars of track and field, helping them all to become the best version of themselves.
David Beckham says Davies “has revolutionised the way I feel about my body.” Joe Wicks calls him “my body coach.” And England centre back Tyrone Mings says, “He has been essential in my recovery from injuries, games and improving my performance.”
Now, he’s written a book, Body, a practical guide for those looking to achieve full-body health and wellbeing. It details the importance of warming up, warming down and how to care for ourselves as we age.
“I want people to take a step backwards and analyse everything in their life,” says Davies. “And see that tweaking small things here and there can make a massive difference.”
TAKE A 360 APPROACH
USE THE SPACE METHOD
At the heart of Body is what Davies calls his ‘360 road map’: an approach that considers every aspect of wellbeing. The aim, he says, is to ensure we recognise when injury might occur and not wait until the last minute to fix issues which have the potential to become serious in the longer term.
