Instead, try making realistic promises for the new season – these expert-approved lifestyle tweaks require minimal effort but can make a big difference.

Stick at it

On average, it takes 66 days (just over two months) to form a new habit, according to research*. To be accountable, share your goal with someone. ‘Going it alone may prevent you from achieving success. Get someone to check in on your progress,’ advises motivational life coach Carole Ann Rice.

Smell your floss after use

'I tell people to smell their floss after using it, because it usually smells gross - that's the scent of bacteria having a party where your brush can't reach. It encourages people to keep using it,' says dentist James Goolnik, founder of the Bow Lane Dental Group. You should use floss or interdental brushes as part of your daily dental routine. 'Plus, you need to brush for two minutes, twice a day. Most people brush for 30 seconds - but that's not enough,' adds James.
