The sweet scent of lemon blossoms in spring is a promise your tree will be dripping with golden baubles soon. Pick them as you need them for cooking, but there's so much more you can do with lemons, so treasure these gems!

SPRING CARE

This is the ideal season. to plant your tree. Remove spring blossoms from young citrus trees for the first couple of years, so the tree can put energy into developing a good root system and branch structure rather that fruit.

• On mature trees, you can have winter fruit and spring blossoms at the same time.

• Water well once a week, twice a week if in a pot.

• Weed around trunks and apply organic mulch.

• Blast away aphids with a hose.

• Prune to control growth if necessary.
