When Principal Designer Rahul Mistri was engaged to renovate this 2,400sq ft apartment in South Mumbai, he had his work cut out for him. Originally a three-room apartment, the home was now meant to accommodate a family of six, requiring one extra bedroom. After some back and forth, Mistri’s team at Open Atelier Mumbai settled on reducing the size of the kitchen to make space for an additional bedroom, a decision that required some thorough planning to ensure the family would still have plenty of space for their daily cooking.
The layout was slightly shifted to adapt to the cooking zone’s smaller square footage and maximise its new size, which now allows the homeowners to use their dream appliances and whip up their favourite meals without issue. Despite its smaller size, the new kitchen feels spacious and just as grand, bringing the family together day in and day out.
As for the rest of the home, iconic designer furniture was expertly selected to evoke tasteful luxury in every room, the apartment’s custom built-ins inspired in many ways by this curated collection of furniture. A classic colour palette and an eclectic collection of dynamic textures harmoniously fuse the various family members’ personal styles; pieces from Slamp, Lasvit, Cassina, Fendi and many more come together to lend the home a sophisticated air that’s decidedly couture.
