LAUREATO ABSOLUTE 8TECH
Besides producing some of the world’s best timepieces, Girard-Perregaux has also explored the use of cutting-edge materials in its watches. And now, the Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech is looking to add to the four-year-old Laureato Absolute legacy.
The Laureato Absolute 8Tech showcases the brand’s pursuit of innovation through its case, which is formed by octagonal carbon parts, resulting in a random structural pattern.
The result is an interesting blend of swirls, reminiscent of Damascus steel, a feature which will definitely draw some double-takes. The octagonal bezel sits above a circular plinth, which all rests on a tonneau-shaped case – marrying the angular and curved into one harmonious silhouette.
The watch is also as functional as it is interesting, because the carbon-titanium material is five times lighter than steel, yet comparable in strength.
The entire timepiece is monochromatic, from its gradient grey dial to its black rubber strap. Add on the strap detailing such as the grey strap and a PVD titanium buckle and you have a stealthy colourway that’ll add a touch of tactical chic to your wrist. Even the display sapphire case back is tinted in a smoky hue.
This monochromatic look lends an extra cool factor to the tool-like nature of the watch. And at 44mm diameter with a thickness just a hair above 15mm, this watch definitely favours utility over formal dress codes. Then again, chronographs are usually treasured for their functionality rather than their sleekness under a jacket sleeve anyway.
