Royal Salute takes Scotch whisky afficionados on a journey to the exotic city of Jodhpur, India—the birthplace of modern polo. The Speyside distillery celebrates its longstanding affinity with polo, ‘The Sport of Kings’, with the Royal Salute 21-Year-Old Jodhpur Polo Edition, the latest release in its iconic Polo Collection.
A destination with deep roots in royalty and ritual, Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop found significant inspiration in the regal Blue City, which harmonises with the iconic Scotch whisky synonymous with heritage and eminence. The fifth release joins the likes of the Royal Salute Polo Estancia Edition, Royal Salute Snow Polo Edition, Royal Salute Beach Polo Edition, and the original Royal Salute Polo Edition.
The history of polo in Jodhpur trace back to the late 19th century when the younger brother of the Maharaja and Prime Minister of Jodhpur State, Sir Pratap, invited Col. Stuart Beatson of the Bengal Lancers to assist him in training the Jodhpur Lancers, which marked a turning point for world’s oldest known team sport. The polo team journeyed to England alongside Sir Pratap for a Diamond Jubilee tournament in Queen Victoria’s honour, being one of the first Indian teams to venture abroad while cementing an alliance between the two nations.
