ROCHE BOBOIS
While the French studio has always delighted design lovers with its unconventional sense of joie de vivre, its latest Autumn/Winter collection is a masterclass in blending modernity with retro styles and interesting shapes. There are eight thematic ranges for those looking for conversational pieces that are versatile enough to fit right into most contemporary spaces.
The Creme De La Creme range fuses the white and rounded aesthetics of the 70s with influences from the snazzy noughties to create plush, modern forms. An iconic showcase is the cream-coloured Blogger3 sofa with rounded lines and soft tufting that brings to mind laid-back nonchalance perfect for digital nomads who desire a living set-up to be casual yet stylish.
Another highlight is the Polygonia sideboard from the Shapes and Sculptures series, which features ultra-contemporary designs with broken, shattered and folded lines, straddling the border between art and furniture. The little brother of the 2017 limited-edition Zephyrus sculptural unit, which was inspired by the Amazonian butterfly Polygonia Zephyrus, this new creation flaunts the same polyhedral units that slot into each other. Opening with two butterfly wings at the top and two flap doors at the bottom, this piece is now available in unlimited supply in a range of 200 metallic colours.
The six other themes are no less fascinating. Organic, nature-inspired codes form the heart of the Water Ripples, Wet Wonderland and Mineral Extraction ranges. Water Ripples mimics the curved lines of pebbles; Wet Wonderland soothes the senses with gently rippling lines and blue-green hues; and Mineral Extraction emphasises the natural beauty of imperfections found in stone and marble.
