CLUB RANGOON
Before trying Burmese cuisine, I thought it would be heavily spiced like that of Thai fare, but this wasn't the case, as demonstrated by Club Rangoon. Located at Duxton Hill, the restaurant, Burmese restaurateur Nelson Htoo's second after debuting in Hong Kong, serves traditional Yangon dishes that incorporate unusual ingredients like catfish, starfruit and chive roots. The contemporary restaurant resembles a teahouse - it's cozy, compact and accommodates up to 39 guests. . The standout item is the mohinga, Myanmar's national dish. Here, hearty rice noodle is served in a lemongrass broth and topped with grilled catfish fillet and chickpea fritter.
The broth is spiced just right, giving it a kick, and the catfish doesn't taste muddy. It's a dish I would return for. 76 Duxton Road
