Decluttering your home can help move your life forward
HELEN SANDERSON, KERRI RICHARDSON
Clear space CLEAR MIND

Your home and the objects you surround yourself with reflect many aspects of your life. They are also a mirror of your inner self – and while personal mementos have a place in any room, living in a cluttered environment could be having a negative impact – for example, you may feel stuck in a rut and find it hard to embrace change.

Letting go of things with a good declutter is a cathartic process that can give you a new-found clarity. Having a comfortable, organised space around you is, without a doubt, key to feeling relaxed, positive and energised. Here’s how to reap the rewards of a home that works better for you practically, emotionally and spiritually.

1 STAY FOCUSED

Kerri Richardson highlights the distinction between the ‘future you’ and ‘present-day you’. The former sees the value in making changes at home, while the latter has to do the work to make the changes.

DO IT To appease your present self, Kerri is a big fan of the Pomodoro Technique – set a timer for 25 minutes to work on a chosen task. Take a five- minute break and then go for another round. ‘This system not only means you make progress, it also helps you build more and more trust with your present self and, over time, she’ll fight you less and less,’ explains Kerri.

2 ENJOY CLARITY
