NORWOOD PILES ON WOE-KING

JAMES Norwood’s second-half strike secured a first victory in four games for Oldham as managerless Woking slumped to a fifth straight home defeat.

The Cards, who sacked Darren Sarll earlier in the week, offered little in response after Norwood pounced for his eighth goal of the season midway through the second half.

Dan Gardner struck the woodwork soon afterwards for the visitors, who could have scored more but for an impressive debut by Woking goalkeeper Alexis Andre.

“We had a lot of chances to put the game to bed,” admitted Latics boss Micky Mellon. “But credit to the players, they kept going.

“Sometimes you can get disappointed when you’re missing chances, you think it’s not going to be your day and maybe you get sucker-punched.

“But we defended really well as a group. The clean sheet is what we’ve been crying out for and it always looked likely we might catch them at some point.”
