Allan desperate to be starter at 10 for Italy

TOMMASO Allan is "quietly confident" Italy can produce an upset against France or New Zealand and make it out of Pool A at the World Cup.

Allan desperate to be starter at 10 for Italy

Hosts France and Rugby Championship winners New Zealand are the two favourites to win the competition, with Italy at 66/1 to top the pool.

But Allan sees an opening with Italy kicking off with Namibia and Uruguay, and Les Bleus and the All Blacks facing off in the opener.

"It's not easy but none of the groups are," said Allan, who kicked eight points in the defeat to Scotland yesterday. "Our first two matches are equally as important. Our main target is to get some good results and then build momentum.

"France and New Zealand play each other first and that will change a lot as well, with a lot of extra pressure for who loses that. Anything can happen off the back of that.
