Dallaglio: We need clarity on Prem 2
The Rugby Paper|November 26, 2023
LAWRENCE Dallaglio is calling for clarity from the RFU and Premiership Rugby over plans for a Premiership 1/Premiership 2 which could see a return for the three top flight sides that went into liquidation last season.

Dallaglio: We need clarity on Prem 2

Wasps, Worcester and London Irish could be handed a lifeline to return to the second tier as early as the start of the 2025-26 season.

There is a desire within Premiership Rugby and the RFU to find a solution to ensure that all three clubs can be saved from extinction by potentially bringing them back into a new-look second tier, likely to be rebranded as ‘Prem 2’.

The Prem 1/Prem 2 restructure is expected to commence in 2025 when the new Professional Game Agreement comes into full force.

Dallaglio, who spent 18 years at Wasps and won seven major honours between 1990-2008, is excited about the prospect of his former side returning at the highest level possible but says the game needs ‘direction’ from the powers that be.

He told The Rugby Paper: “It would be wonderful to see those three teams back. What we all need is a bit of direction from the RFU and Premiership Rugby because in order to get those teams back you need a structure and a pathway. As soon as it’s available, the governing bodies will hopefully share what their vision of English rugby is with Prem 1 and Prem 2.
