The Gujarat government's policy for green hydrogen manufacturing is likely to be announced early next year. The policy, being finalised, will have several incentives for manufacturers and is expected to propel the state's ambition to become Number 1 in green hydrogen manufacturing.
The central government has set a target of manufacturing five MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum) of green hydrogen by 2030. Gujarat expects to produce nearly 50 per cent of this, a senior official in the state government told Mirror.
Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity generated from renewable sources. It is an environment-friendly alternative to grey hydrogen which is generated from natural gas and emits substantial amounts of carbon dioxide.
