An 18-year-old first-year student of the GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Dharpur in Patan died after fainting in the college hostel. While the post-mortem report is awaited, his classmates claim that the student, identified as, died after being made to stand for three Anil Methaniya hours during a ragging session by their seniors. Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated investigation.
Methania, who hailed from Jesda village in Surendranagar's Dhrangadhra taluka, had come to the college just a month ago.
