Nicholas Ralph, who plays vet James Herriot in the new version, says the cast got a boost when Christopher gave his blessing and said he "really enjoyed" the rebooted series.
And he said Christopher, who also appeared in Doctors and EastEnders, could pick any role he wanted, adding: "We would absolutely love it."
Christopher, 83, played Herriot from 1978 until 1990. The new actors have recreated the stories of the real-life Yorkshire vet.
