Tommy Johnson, 31, and Sophie Baker, 25, left behind Buster and Layla when they moved out of their home on December 30.

The pooches were "in agony, starving and neglected" in filthy conditions for nearly a month at the property in Sinfin in Derby.

The RSPCA was contacted by a concerned member of the public who saw a dead dog in the faeces-covered garage.

The emaciated body of Buster was then found in the garage with Layla by his side.

Dehydrated

The couple, of Allenton, Derby, pleaded guilty at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court to causing unnecessary suffering and were banned from keeping animals for life.
