SHIN EMPEROR "has improved his fitness" for his bid to end Japan's tale of woe in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Japanese runners have a history of heroic failure in Europe's middle-distance championship since El Condor Pasa was heartbreakingly overhauled by Montjeu in 1999, Nakayama Festa (2010) and Orfevre (2012 and 2013) finished second at Paris Longchamp.
