EUROPEAN Cup winner Gary Shaw died when he fell and banged his head on the kerb after a night out with friends, an inquest heard.
By Ed Chatterton

The ex-Aston Villa football ace was discovered outside his home by a neighbour on September 6.

Birmingham Coroner's Court heard yesterday he passed away surrounded by family 10 days later.

The inquest was told Shaw had been at The Jam House in the city and was put in a taxi by friends around 1.30am, before being found unconscious in the early hours.

Shaw, 63 - one of the best strikers in Villa's 150-year history - died in hospital after suffering a "severe head injury." City coroner Louise Hunt recorded that he died as a result of an accident.
