DAVID Beckham played wingman to Prince William as a £15million target to replace London Air Ambulance's ageing helicopters was smashed.

The pilot prince was joined by the England football legend at RAF Northolt to view two new H135 craft bought after the Up Against Time appeal raised £16million £4million of it came from an Omaze campaign backed by Beckham.

The Prince of Wales, patron of the ambulance charity, invited Becks to thank him for his support. Beckham, 49, said of the choppers: "I'm an East End boy so every time we saw them in the air it made us very proud."

The pair greeted each other as old friends and hopped into the cockpit - William, 42, taking the pilot's seat.
