It's Fergie time ...to step down

SIR Alex Ferguson has agreed to step down from his reported £2million-ayear Manchester United ambassador role as part of cost-cutting plans.

The managerial legend, 82, won 38 trophies at Old Trafford during a reign spanning nearly 27 years, including 13 Premier League titles and two European Cups.

Sir Alex is reported to have been planning to step down from his duties in due course after the death of his wife Lady Cathy in October last year.

Now, after an amicable meeting with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, he is ending the role at the close of this season.
