NHS 'Under Significant Pressure' As Doctors Strike For Five Days

The latest walkout comes after they were handed a rise averaging nearly 9% in the last financial year.

The five-day strike was set to start at 7am and will end at the same time on Tuesday.

Tens of thousands of scheduled appointments and operations are set to be axed.

It comes as yellow health alerts remain in place because of soaring temperatures.

The UK Health Security Agency warns OAPs are more likely to suffer heat-stroke and exhaustion as well as worsening respiratory and heart problems.

Postponed

NHS England medical director Sir Stephen Powis said: "This new round of strike action will again hit the NHS very hard, with almost all routine care likely to be affected and services put under significant pressure.
