SIR Alan Bates slammed senior Post Office management after they announced the closure of 115 branches.
The hero of the Horizon Scandal said: "I've long since said that the Post Office in its current format is a dead dog.
"They've got a huge network out there of very hard-working people and if they're given the right tools to do a good job.
"It's a wonderful network, but it's just been abused at the moment.
"They pay them SO poorly, that's one of the key things.
