A ROYAL Navy member was killed when a helicopter ditched during an exercise with the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, it has emerged.
The Merlin Mk4 helicopter, favoured by Royal Marines for rapid deployment, hit the Channel during a night training exercise off the Dorset coast on Wednesday night.
Two on board were rescued and taken to hospital without serious injury. A third person's body has been recovered.
The Royal Royal Navy said: "It is with great sadness that we must report a member has died following a training incident.
