AT least three migrants died when their overcrowded small boat was rushed by dozens more desperate people yesterday.
Panicking passengers plunged into the English Channel soon after dawn off Sangatte beach, near Calais, in northern France.
One child was reported to be missing amid fears the death toll will rise.
Shocked charity worker Flore Judet said: "A boat was setting off with 60 people on board but a group of 50 additional people tried to get on.
"This created extreme panic, causing many to end up in the water."
Passengers suffered hypothermia in the sea, while others without life jackets could not stay afloat.
