Santander UK said its customers lost nearly £2million to bank transfer scams between Christmas Day and New Year's Day last year. It included a customer who lost over £600,000, the biggest individual loss in 2023.Scams included clothes advertised on Instagram, and football and Taylor Swift tickets purchased on Facebook Marketplace.Impersonation scams may also catch people out when they are spending time relaxing at home over the holidays.Santander UK's Pete Staffel said: "Don't let Christmas cloud your senses. Scammers don't take the festive period off."
