CRUISING is on the crest of a wave with soaring numbers of families holidaying at sea.

The proportion of UK travellers with children who are taking to ships has almost doubled over the past five years, research shows.

Abta's annual Holiday Habits study, unveiled yesterday by the travel association, also revealed that Brits enjoyed more breaks than ever in the last 12 months.

Among holidaying families, 15% chose a cruise, up from 8% in 2019.

And the trend looks set to continue with 17% of respondents planning to book one.

While 55% of all cruise-goers named ocean voyages as their top option, 51% of those with children favoured British Isles voyages.
