RIOTING erupted in Paris after voting resulted in a hung parliament and signalled a period of political uncertainty.

Chaos broke out on the streets, with fires being set by one side and noisy celebrations from the other.

There were reports of fireworks being thrown in Lyon, Nantes and Rennes.

With just weeks until the capital hosts the Olympics, left-wingers and centrists rejoiced on Sunday after their parties' formed a fragile coalition to scupper the far-right National Rally's predicted victory.
